Everyone's wanting a Safari alternative: Opera

Just last Monday, Opera Software released their iPhone version of their popular web browser, Opera Mini Web Browser. It was a surprise that the app was actually approved, and since then it's steadily climbed through the charts in many countries to reach 1st rank. It looks as though almost everyone are trying out the FREE alternative to Safari.

It's got great loading times, but for me it lacks the polished finish that Safari has. There's no ability to freely zoom, instead it automatically sets a zoom level to best suit the contents of the page. This may be handy at times, but it can get annoying when you can't get the right size for yourself. As a free app, there's no reason you shouldn't check it out. It won't be a Safari killer for me, but who knows, you might just like it a lot more.

Minigore fix update is out, 100,000 FREE kills+more!

UPDATE: If you're having trouble updating or don't have your 100,000 kills/characters, go to the App Store updates and see if Minigore has re-appeared. If it has, the game has downloaded but didn't install. Instead of updating via the 'updates' tab again, search for Minigore and click 'install'. It will tell you it's free, and start downloading.

We all know about the devastating result of the Episode 3.7 update to Minigore, when everyone lost all data and the game refused to save information. Mountain Sheep took a heavy blow with endless 1 star ratings on iTunes, but they've finally gotten their data fix update through Apple and onto the App Store! In case you didn't read the previous post about this update, this is what has happened:

Anyone who suffered from data loss will be granted 100 000 free kills.
f you used OpenFeint, the next time you log on all the characters for which you had an achievement will be unlocked, as well as the next most expensive character you didn't yet have an achievement for (if any). For instance, if you have achievements for Jerry Gore and Zombieville Guy, you will get access to those two characters + the next character, Hook Champ, regardless of whether you had them unlocked previously or not.

Let's hope that all is well with this update, and nothing else has gone wrong. For all those you were very angry at the data loss, here's your compensation! I'm currently updating, so we'll see very soon if everything works again!

Freaking Inkies has taken over the App Store!

Last February, Hungry Game released the awesome game 'Fly Kiwi, Fly!', and now they've back with another awesome game, Freaking Inkies published by Atakama Labs! The title may not tell us much about the game, but essentially it is a shooter type game making good use of the accelerometer and multi-touch of the iPhone. There is a set of buttons for each of the primary colours, and shooting is done by pressing a button on either side, then releasing to shoot, or holding down for a power shot. Mix the primary colours around to shoot the secondary colours! Below is a video trailer to give you an idea about the gameplay.

The game features many 'books', each with many 'chapters' for you to play through, amounting to hundreds of levels. There are over 10 different game modes to mix things up, including the standard shoot 'em all, Sniper, and in the Dark levels! There' also a free play mode, where you try and survive as long as you can to get a high score. To top it off, there is Plus+ network integration, so there's achievements, leaderboards and the lot! One thing to note, their previous game used Openfeint, but they've now switched to Plus+, so I don't know whether that's good or bad for you guys.

The game features great cute graphics, lively music and the controls are unique and fun to use. It may seem a little childish, but there's no reason adults wouldn't enjoy this game either! It's available now for $2.99, and Hungry Game has been kind enough to give us a copy so expect a review soon!

There's a big fan base out there for MMORPGs for the iPhone, and lately all the talk has been about Com2us' new game, IMO: The World of Magic. The wait has been long, but it's finally starting to be released around the world! The game features 3 different classes (Warrior, Ranger, Magician), all of which are customizable. Below is the trailer released by Com2uS.

Have fun as you explore an immersive environment, playing people from all over the world. Chat with friends in real time, or have a private chat with them. Play in the PvP arena to fight against anyone you wish, whether it's over wifi or 3G.

Trailer for '2010 FIFA World Cup: South Africa' released!

We all love our football/soccer, there's no doubt about that, so the FIFA World Cup fever is no doubt going to start picking up. That means more awesome football/soccer games are going to grace the App Store, including EA. They brought us FIFA 10 last year, one of the best of the lot, and now they have their World Cup specific version, FIFA World Cup: South Africa. Below is a trailer just released very recently, showing the gameplay of a match between England and USA.

I'm not quite getting that 'wow' feeling from this trailer, but it's not the final game yet so let's hope we'll still get a wonderful game later next month. It's due to release on April 30th, so keep an eye out for more announcements!

Minigore 'data loss fix' update on its way!

About a week ago, everyone was very frustrated and angry with Minigore, after the Episode 3.7 update cleared all data from the game, including the characters, kills and difficulty levels. Mountain Sheep have finally picked themselves up and submitted an update to fix all this. Here's what they've done as compensation of the data loss:

Anyone who suffered from data loss will be granted 100 000 free kills.
If you used OpenFeint, the next time you log on all the characters for which you had an achievement will be unlocked, as well as the next most expensive character you didn't yet have an achievement for (if any). Don't like Safari? Try 'Opera Mini Web browser', FREE!

Does the lag on Safari irritate you? Are you pulling your hair out from slow loading times? Well now there's a great alternative, 'Opera Mini Web browser'. There are quite a few alternative browsers available on the App Store, but most of them are paid apps. Not this one, Opera is FREE!

Opera claims to compress data 'up to 90%', meaning loading times will improve dramtically. Most of the features can be seen easily in the screenshots, such as tabs to allow multi-tasking and the greater page numbers compared to Safari. One handy feature you can't see is URL auto-completion, so that you don't have to scroll down and select a link. This app comes as a surprise to some, as it was expected to be rejected by Apple. Thankfully, it's been approved, and it's FREE, so why not give it a go? It's currently available in some countries, but USA will have to wait a few more hours for Apple to release it.

Many people were very disappointed when the iPad version of 'Warpgate' was released without the iPhone version accompanying it, but now we can all rejoice as Freeverse have finally started to roll out the iPhone version around the world. It's still not currently available in the US, although it will be out very soon. The hype for the game has been building up, so let's hope it's not a let down. Cave, the Japanese company behind many fantastic games, have now released their iPhone port of the very popular 'Espgaluda II' from the Xbox 360. This game is without a doubt one of the best bullet hell shooters out there. Bullet hell shooters are side shooters that are so hectic that literally the entire screen is covered in enemy fire. Twitter to get a FREE official app!

Something that Twitter has been lacking is an official app for the iPhone, but that's now going to change with the purchase of Tweetie by Twitter! Tweetie is currently one of the most popular apps for Twitter on the iPhone, and when I asked my followers for suggestions on a Twitter app, Tweetie was mentioned multiple times. The announcement was made today by Twitter CEO Evan Williams, and Tweetie is planned to be renamed 'Twitter for iPhone'. Williams has noted the fact that there is lots of room for improvement for Twitter exprience on the App Store, and the official app will be released as a FREE official app!

ANOTHER update for ZombieSmash!

GameDoctors promised to have many frequent updates for ZombieSmash!, and so far, they're right on track! The first update brought an easy mode and improvements to sandbox, and now it's time to gear up with another update in the coming weeks! This update will add a brand new special power up, the furious windmill blade!

The easter mode will also be removed, although an option to turn it on/off will still remain. The rest will just be fixes to bugs and glitches. This may be a small update, but I'm still looking forward to the new special. Stay tuned, the update will be submitted in 1-2 weeks! If you're a side scroller kind of guy, I'm sure you've tried 'A Quest of Knights Onrush', a promotional game created based on the characters of the castle defense game, Knights Onrush. Well the developers behind it, MoreGames Entertainment, is back with an action packed sequel! Here's the sneek preview of the game that was just released today.

The game features 7 big worlds to explore, 3 different characters, over 30 enemy types, traps and machines and a Story, Endless and Super Endless game mode. I thoroughly enjoyed the original promotional game, but I did notice that the game ended once you reached 6000ft. The gameplay is looking great, let's hopeit's even better than the first! The game will be available in Spring 2010, so look out for another announcement!

iPhone OS 4.0 is HERE! Awesome new features!

Apple has just rounded up their announcement about iPhone OS 4.0, and it's looking like a great improvement. Please note that some features are limited to the iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3rd gen, like multi-tasking. So here's what the features list looks like:

Minigore update out, WARNING: DO NOT UPDATE!!

Now here's the MAJOR issue. If you currently update, you will LOSE ALL YOUR DATA! The major bug causes the whole game to reset, making you lose all your characters (bought and unlocked) and kills. If you're just a minor player who only plays every now and then, go ahead and update. But if you are a huge Minigore fan, DO NOT UPDATE! I am currently on 630,000 kills, and unlocking Sensai Evan is nearly there. If you have updated or updating, do the following:

If you're CURRENTLY UPDATING on your iPhone, then PAUSE THE UPDATE. Connect to iTunes, and let it do its thing. When the sync is done, Minigore should be back to the previous Episode 3.6 and the Episode 3.7 update should now be updating on your iTunes. Just cancel it, and you've still got yourself all your data.

If you've ALREADY UPDATED on your iPhone, unfortunately there's no easy way to reverse the damage. If you're really desperate to keep your characters or kills, the only way is to restore your iPhone from backup. This takes time and is frustrating, but if you've spent lots of time and effort into unlocking Sensai Even, this may be the only option.

I completely understand everyone's anger and frustration at this situation, I'm also very disappointed in Mountain Sheep. As an apology, they're offering to add 20,000 kills to the update that will fix the bug, but for a fan like me who's make hundreds of thousands of kills, it's just not enough.

Everyone's seen Star Wars before, and being a very popular franchise, there's no surprise that games have been made based on the movies. Well THQ have ported over one of their games, Star Wars: Cantina! The game is based on time management, much like the popular 'Sally's Spa'.

Have fun serving up your favourite villians, heroes and everyone in between with drinks and all, as the famous Cantina Band plays their great music. Like all time management games, it's all about methodically streaming through wave after wave of awaiting customers. This game features two game modes, career mode and endless shift mode. I like the cute cartoon style, but haven't had the chance to check out the gameplay. If you're a fan of time management games, check it out, and leave some impressions here if you want!

Riding along with the original' success, RedLynx has released Monster Trucks Nitro 2. The original Monster Trucks Nitro was a decent game, but for me it lacked some factors to keep me playing. The tracks weren't giving me that monster trucks feel, and the graphics could have been improved. Now the sequel improves much on the faults of the original, and packs a decent punch for the $2.99 price tag.

You have a choice of riding in the pickup, 6 wheel ATV, Rocket and MAC monster track across 20 stunning tracks. It's all full 3D environments, so you'll be smashing, crashing and landing your truck and your surroundings in a great environment. This sequel will really give you a more genuine feeling of driving a monster truck beast. Check it out now!

A few weeks back we came across a horrible rip-off of Doodle Jump, and it was so bad that I don't even remember the name! Well another dev, jiang zhi, has taken another pot shot at the Doodle Jump franchise. I present to you, Doodle Drop-Ultimate Addictive!

What disgusts me even more is that this game is currently 40th on the Top Paid Games, ahead of much more deserving games such as ZombieSmash! and Flight Control. If you see this app, DON'T DOWNLOAD IT! I would've expected better from Apple. And no, I won't be posting a link to this game, this is just shameful.

Gameloft reels in a big catch, 'Fishing Kings'!

As gameloft continues to dominate throughout the App Store, they're constantly pumping out new games. They're latest game is here to catch onto the 'Flick Fishing' craze, as Fishing Kings brings another great fishing game to the App Store!

The game is pretty similar to Flick Fishing, as the aim of the game is to visit various locations, use different baits and try and catch a massive fish! The game features 15 wonderful 3D locations to fish, over 30 different species, plenty of tools in tackle box, and Gameloft LIVE! integration so you can show off that awesome catch! One exclusive feature of this game that I like is the underwater camera, which follows the fish as you wrestle it out of the water!

The graphics of the game look great, and the gameplay will no doubt interest all those fishing fans out there. If you've ever enjoyed Flick Fishing, Fishing Kings is a great new alternative!

One main feature of the App Store is that it has many crazy, fun games that can make almost no sense, and MUST.EAT.BIRDS. falls dead centre into that category. Seemingly inspired by the craziness of Japanese game shows, this game revolves around the player flinging the 'Nomster' at birds falling from the sky, all determined to ruin your picnic and steal your cake! The game features a great cartoon style, 6 different enemy types, 18 unique missions and more, not to mention LOADS of Openfeint achievement points! The game is a great little entertainer, and for FREE, there's no reason you should pass up the opportunity to play it. I've had it for quite some time now, and thanks to the Openfeint's Free Game of the Day, you can have fun with it too!

Review: Harbor Master

Harbor Master is a great, fun line drawing game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game also has a FREE iPad version! If you've heard of Flight Control, well then you basically know Harbor Master. Instead of controlling planes, in Harbor Master you control ships! You have to dock all the ships and prevent them from crashing into each other. Fun, addicting, yet challenging, I would definitely say that this is one of the better apps in the AppStore.

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are pretty good. They are very well designed and flow smoothly. Not much else to say on the graphics.

Gameplay:

The gameplay is fun and challenging. The game starts out very easy, but gets harder with larger ships, more cargo, and ultimately, less room to maneuver so that you don't run into other ships. Similar to flight control, but in my opinion better. There are several different "ports" where you can play the game, each one with a new challenge. I really enjoy the game.

Game Controls:

The game controls are also very well designed. There are no problems with it, and they are easy to understand. Just tap a ship and draw a path for it to take, and the ship will follow. Very very simple.

Replay Value:

This game has great replay value and is very addicting. I really enjoyed playing it, I would call it one of those "one more go" games. Great app, very fun, tons of content that is definitely worth the price!
Summing It Up:

Harbor Master is a great strategy game. Hurry and get the HD version of the game for iPad, currently free! I really enjoyed the app. This one's a keeper!

App Store welcomes Vampire Origins

After a long wait, Vampire Origins by Chillingo has been released. The game is described as the 'most advanced survival horror', and let's the player take control the character 'Vincent' in a 3D environment. Below is the storyline written by Chillingo:

After being trained by the ancient fathers known only as The Order, Vincent began his life as a vampire hunter. His deep hatred for the blood-sucking scourge grew exponentially after his bride was brutally murdered. Vincent’s anger grew and the destruction that lay in his wake brought him to the attention of Valafar, the evil Vampire leader.

Valafar, The highest of the Vampire Lords challenged Vincent to dual. Valafar was too strong and upon loosing the fight and being cast into the depths of the underworld. Only the memory of his fallen bride remained with Vincent, now a shadow of his former self.

Driven by revenge, Vincent now returns to the mortal realm to bring war to the plague of vampires that had infested or destroyed all that was good in the world.

The game features two control methods, campaign and survival mode, as well as the Crystal platform integration. First impressions seem mixed, but if you're a fan for some horror shooters, I think it's worth checking out.

Doodle Jump gets Easter update!!

You remember how I said games will be getting easter updates? Well here's another, this time for Doodle Jump by Lima Sky! Just last week they brought us the amazing Space level, and they're back already for an Easter special!

"Since so many of you requested an update for Easter, we decided to create an Easter Easter egg update!!!! Yup, that's an Easter Easter egg update! Change your name to 'bunny' at the end of the game to activate it!

The Doodler gets an Easter Bunny outfit and the monsters are all new as well! And don't forget the Easter Egg hunt! Collect the eggs as you jump up for some cool power-ups including a CARROT JETPACK!

Pre-iPad release app sales are stacking up!

The light at the end of the tunnel is so close now, as Apple Store's around USA start preparing for a barrage from Apple fanatics anxious for the iPad. Customers are getting so excited for the iPad that some are pre-stocking their iTunes with many iPad apps. The current top 10 stands as follows

Observing the iPad top paid apps, it's clear that most developers have chosen to create seperate iPad optimised games, as well as raising the price. Whether this affects iPad and game sales, we'll have to wait and see. Also very noticeable is that Apple are approving many highly anticipated games for the iPad, but not their iPhone counterpart. Some of these include Warpgate, Mirror's Edge, Zen Bound 2 and Minigore Ep3.7. I'm hoping that this lag for iPhone app approvals is only temporary, and that once the massive pre-release app submissions are dealt with, we'll go back to seeing iPhone apps being approved in well under a week!

Following up from the Mars Mission update, Chad Towns has released another update for Doodle Army. The new features include a new doodle selection system, a handful of new characters, Openfeint achievements and options to toggle the volume of enemy screams. There's now also the option to turn on/off the advertisements within the game for other Chad Towns apps. It may just be a minor update, but the next one to follow will bring new boss levels! Stay tuned for updates on Doodle Army!

COD Zombies for iPad creeps onto App Store

Accompanying the surprise release of Geometry Wars: Touch to the iPad today, 'Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies for iPad' is also available now from Activision. The game is now iPad optimised and brings stunning graphics improvements, as well as both maps 'Nacht der Untoten' and 'Verruckt' included in the download. Priced at $14.99, it's essentially the same as buying the iPhone version and then purchasing Verruckt as DLC. For first time users, this may be a good buy, but for me, I'm not sure I'd fork out another $15 to get the same game, just with a blown up screen.

A couple of days ago I posted about the upcoming game 'Ivan' by Bootant, and as promised, there's now a gameplay screenshot and video.

I'm really liking the look of the controls, Bootant has done a great job in breaking away from boring, simple buttons. The green colour looks great, and the curves of each button and icon add to that cartoon style of art. The joystick is also unique, heading away from the conventional circular virtual joystick. Bootant has advised that a lot of things are not perfect (sounds, gameplay, graphics), but the game still looks very polished. Stay tuned, beta testing will commence soon!

As many iPad titles are starting to crawl onto the App Store, Activision have given fans a pleasant surprise in the form of 'Geometry Wars: Touch'. Although there are many copies such as geoFighter, none of them gave me the bang I got from playing Geometry Wars. Well the official Geometry Wars for iPad is out, and brings all six original game modes, as well as an iPad exclusive one called 'Titans'.

Get ready, Mirror's Edge is finally coming! (Updated 2/4/10)

UPDATE: Mirror's Edge is now available for the iPad, and is currently on sale for $12.99!

After many people were left disappointed at EA's decision to postpone the release of Mirror's Edge, it has finally been found that it will be ready to release to the iPad on 3rd April! In this game, you play as Faith Connors, an underground courier, as you run around an amazing 3D world through 14 single player levels. Also included is multiplayer, where you can 'outrun or outwit other runners over 4 rival maps'. Below is the first released image, although not ipad size.

One thing that should be noted is the price tag. Mirror's Edge is priced at $14.99, a little stretch from what gamers usually fork out on the App Store. Nonetheless, this will be a standout app as the iPad starts to roll out on Sunday!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 now available!

After the announcement by Tony Hawk himself about the game, skating fans have been waiting anxiously to get their hands on the iPhone version of Pro Skater 2. Well wait no further, because today Pro Skater 2 by Activision has shredded its way onto the App Store! The game boasts many features, including:

Ride as Tony Hawk, one of the greatest skateboarding icons of all time.
Skat as on of 12 other featured pros.
Master signature pro moves and hundreds of tricks including nose/tailslides, nose/bluntslides, lip tricks, nollies, manuals and more.

Minigore update submitted, Easter sale!!! (Edited 1/4/10)

After a long grueling wait for Minigore fans, Mountain Sheep have finally submitted a new update to Apple. For those of you that don't know what it is, it's a very popular and successful dual stick shooter survival game. Below is a list of the latest features added (straight from Mountain Sheep).

Two completely new characters:

-Zombie Gore (this fellow can’t seem to shoot straight)

-Easter Bunny (one like you’ve never seen before, courtesy of Dr. Metusalem)

New enemy:

-Predator Furry (lurks in the bushes!)

A whole host of improvements:

-Bullet shells-Improved controls (use up the whole screen)

-Larger play area-Prettier shadows

-Hardland map (level selection)

-Dozens of bug fixes

What is still missing is co-op mode, a feature that has been postponed multiple times, much to the dismay of Minigore players worldwide. I understand that this is because of difficulties in implementing the new game mode, but Mountain Sheep are still hard at work, and hopefully we'll see it in the near future. There's no information about the sale other than 'We're having an Easter sale to celebrate the latest Episode!' posted on their blog, as well as the picture above. The price is still currently $1.99, but I'm assuming the sale will be implemented very soon and be lowered to $0.99. Get it now, the update will hopefully be approved by the end of the week!

Action Buggy drives into the App Store

Donut Games, creators of App Store hits such as Rat on a Scooter XL and Comet Racer, are back with their latest game, Action Buggy. The basic gameplay revolves around a never stopping moon buggy, driving along the surface of the moon through crazy scenery. The player can either shoot or jump the buggy, avoiding objects such as fire patches, boulders and trees. The gameplay video below has been uploaded by the devs.

First Tilt to Live update on its way

One Man Left Studios have updated their website blog, stating that an interim update for their popular title Tilt to Live is on its way. The update will bring with it many fixes to problems that players have commented on, such as the calibration and SFX of the game. Below is the list of fixes and improvements.

The “Quit Blowing Bubbles” achievement exploit is now fixed.
Cluster Missiles and Blackhole pick ups are now correctly muted when you mute the SFX in the options menu.
Pausing the game is now no longer triggered on the very edges of the screen, avoiding accidental pausing.
Simplified in-game HUD. No more HUD elements that obstruct the playfield.
Some new loading screen material.
Other minor bug fixes

The calibration of the 'Custom' controls has also had a change, due to the fact that the accelerometer cannot be used to steer left/right when the iPhone is in a vertical orientation. This has been remedied with a steering control system. They describe it as 'not the most elegant way of going about it', but it'll get the job done for those who like custom and sleepy control.

The weapon unlock system is somewhat confusing, so the game achievements section will be displayed differently now.

I've spent considerable time trying to beat my high scores on this, and I'm sure all of you would love it too. Don't forget, the red and gauntlet mode update is coming out on 24th April, so be prepared for some serious tilting!

ZombieSmash! is getting an Easter makeover!

Just a week ago, GameDoctors let ZombieSmash! loose in the app store, and since then, it has risen to the top 25 games chart and received praise from many review sites. I myself have been infected with the ZombieSmash! disease from day 1 of the beta testing, and have really enjoyed smashing those zombies. Well they're back already with their first update, bringing the easter touch to ZombieSmash!. Below are some pictures released by the devs a few days ago.

The update will also be bringing an easy mode to the campaign, so it doesn't matter whether your a newbie to this game or a zombie veteran. Some changes will be added, as well as introducing Big Bruno to the sandbox mode! Don't know what I'm talking about? Pick up the game now and start smashing!

Zenonia 2 Finally Released!

The much anticipated sequel to Gamvil's Zenonia has finally hit the App Store, and a frenzy has begun with all the fans of the original. The sequel brings with it a vast upgrade from the original, and I very much enjoyed playing the beta build of the game. If you enjoyed the original game, there's no reason you shouldn't pick up Zenonia 2 and start reliving the awesome adventure! Below is a game preview released by Gamevil several days ago.

Upcoming title 'Ivan' by Bootant (Edited 29/3/10)

EDIT: The developers of Ivan have stated that the game will in fact be scrolling from left to right, and that the controls will be in the form of a virtual joystick on the left and virtual buttons on the right. The current screenshots were taken on a mac, and actual iPhone screenshots plus a video will be released in the coming days.

There's no denying that side scrollers are a massive hit on the App Store. There's also no denying that there's plenty of top quality ones already featured on the App Store. It would really take a brilliant developer to create an amazing game to challenge those already ruling the genre. The developers at Bootant announced their upcoming side scroller, Ivan, little over a month ago, and as the game edges towards completion, the game just might become a great addition to the side scrollers available now. The game revolves around the character Ivan, as he battles his way through wave after wave of Nazi soldiers, zombies, and massively big bosses. The art style reminds me a little of OMG! Pirates, while the theme is similar to Trenches. The current screenshots do not show any buttons, so it is unknown exactly how the game will be controlled. A notable difference from other side scrollers is that the character is going from right to left, unlike most that go from left to right. Although this wouldn't take away from the game experience, it is unusual for me to see this. I look forward to testing this game in the near future.

The game is fast approaching beta stage, and will be available in the App Store soon. Keep an eye out, I may post a video at a later date.

Upcoming game Dr. Nano X by Mission Critical Studios

Mission Critical Studios, makers of Dr. Nano-3D Artery Adventure, are nearing completion of their latest game, Dr NanoX. Both the original and the new game revolve around a doctor who uses nanotechnology to shrink himself to the size of a blood cell and treat patients from within their body. The game is a 3rd person shooter, and is promising multiplayer, new weapons and characters, new worlds and mission episodes. Below is some gameplay footage released by the devs.

The game is approaching beta stage, and will be available in the near future on the app store. With the dev's permission, I will hopefully have inital impressions of the game posted within the next couple of weeks.

Trenches update brings Multiplayer!

This is an excellent game which I've spent a considerable amount of time playing, but like most fans, I agreed that it needed a multiplayer aspect. Well, thanks to the latest update, here it is! Trenches v1.5, called TrenchesVS on your device, brings with it Co-op and versus multiplayer over bluetooth and local Wifi. After a little intial playing, I find it to be a great addition to this game, and it was enjoyable to be playing against my friends. The only thing that annoys me about multiplayer is that the enemy is now also clever, so expect to get angry when your friend blasts you with artillery.

In both game modes, both players go from the left to right like in the campaign. In versus mode, the other player appear as Germans, although on their screen they are also the British and you appear to them as Germans. In co-op mode, each player handles their own cash and men, although they are shooting at a mutual enemy. Also included in the update is a new game mode called 'King of the Trenches'. In this game mode, you have to keep your men within the central trench to earn points, and the first to 1000 points is declared the winner.

To those who don't yet have this game, now would be a great time to pick it up. Get some friends together, and start slaying! Future updates will hopefully bring global multiplayer, new skirmish modes, new factions and new units.

First image and details of Flight Control HD revealed

The first image and details of Firemint's Flight Control HD have appeared on AppAdvice, bringing with it iPad optimized graphics and some new features and game modes. Firstly, the maps have all been enlarged to make complete use of the iPad screen, as well as adding 3 new HD exclusive apps to the 5 original ones.

The main new feature here is split-screen multiplayer, which utilizes all the enlarged screen space of the iPad. Player can play versus or co-op, as well as playing with other iPhones/iPod Touchs/iPads over Wifi. There is also a new function, where players can draw partially completed routes and return to complete it later. The biggest influence here is the price, as it is not a free update to existing Flight Control players. iPad owners will have to fork out $4.99 for the HD version, but regardless of price, this will surely be a hit.

Flight Control HD will be available on April 3rd for the iPad release.
